Cellist Nicholas Finch and the NouLou Chamber Players present Cellostatus, a compelling album featuring three new works for cello and orchestra conducted by Jason Seber. This world premiere collection showcases compositions by Alyssa Weinberg, Dorian Wallace, and Ljova (Lev Zhurbin), exploring comprehensive themes in modern life through a blend of traditional and innovative musical elements.
ABOUT The artists:
Since performing as a concerto soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at age 18, cellist Nicholas Finch has established himself as an artist of great depth and diversity.
Finch is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Derby City Chamber Music Festival, now entering its third season, featuring some of the best chamber musicians from around the country, including members of the Escher String Quartet, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, musicians from the Louisville Orchestra, the NouLou Chamber Players, and many more. He also serves as the conductor of the Festival Orchestra. He served as a secondary cello soloist with cellist Yo-Yo Ma in Teddy Abrams' 'Mammoth', performed by the Louisville Orchestra in Mammoth Cave National Park, and soon to be released on PBS.
Finch was appointed Principal Cellist of the Louisville Orchestra by music director Teddy Abrams. He has appeared with the Boston-based chamber orchestra ‘A Far Cry’ on numerous concerts and recordings, one recording having been nominated for a Grammy Award. He has additionally appeared numerous times with the Jupiter Chamber Players in New York City. A native of Boston, Finch began his cello studies at the age of 12. He attended Harvard, Juilliard, and the University of Michigan, studying the cello with Andrew Mark, David Soyer, Harvey Shapiro, Richard Aaron, and Marcy Rosen. He has studied orchestral conducting with Kenneth Kiesler and Markand Thakar. Finch returned to University of Michigan again in 2023, this time to earn a Masters Degree in Orchestral Conducting.

A blending of the ideas ‘NuLu’ and the French word ‘nouveau’, NouLou Chamber Players is a vibrant ensemble of classical musicians who curate concerts and give deeply moving performances in a multitude of locations based in Louisville, Kentucky. Their salon style of performing in intimate settings is reminiscent of the way chamber music was enjoyed centuries ago, but with their fresh take and modern flair. They also continue with the city of Louisville’s historic commitment to furthering musical innovation worldwide through commissions, premieres and recording projects.

Jason Seber served as Associate Conductor of the Kansas City Symphony from 2016 to 2022. He previously served as the Education and Outreach Conductor of the Louisville Orchestra and Music Director of the Louisville Youth Orchestra. He has conducted many of America’s leading orchestras, including the Charleston, Colorado, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Nashville, National, San Diego, Santa Fe, and St. Louis Symphony, the Buffalo Philharmonic, Louisville Orchestra, and Minnesota Orchestra, among others. Seber has had the pleasure of performing with a wide range of artists, including Patti Austin, Mason Bates, Andrew Bird, Boyz II Men, Ashley Brown, Jinjoo Cho, Melissa Etheridge, Ben Folds, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Paul Jacobs, Wynonna Judd, Lyle Lovett, Natalie Merchant, Brian Stokes Mitchell, My Morning Jacket, Leslie Odom Jr., Aoife O’Donovan, Pink Martini, Stephen Schwartz, Doc Severinsen, Conrad Tao, and Joyce Yang.
